    THE 7 POLES OF ANTARCTICA

It is a well-known fact that our Earth has a geographic and a magnetic south and north pole, and that these are currently positioned in exactly opposite directions. However, many people are unaware that the continent of Antarctica has a total of seven poles. In addition to the geographic and magnetic poles, the continent also possesses a geomagnetic south pole, the "Pole of Solitude," the "Pole of Inaccessibility," the "Pole of Ignorance," and the "Pole of the Masses."

    FASCINATION ANTARCTICA

Antarctica may seem distant and otherworldly, but it is fundamentally important. Its oceans determine our global weather systems and absorb half of the additional CO2 produced by humans. When the vast ice of the Antarctic continent melts, coastal cities worldwide are flooded. This is one of the reasons why Peter Fretwell wrote this book. His aim is twofold: to share the fascination Antarctica held for him and to explain the importance of the white continent, telling the story of its transformation.
